My Clothes Are Shrinking

Isn't that our first thought when we put something on and it doesn't fit the way it used to or maybe even at all?  That is the reason I gave for my "skinny" jeans, my regular jeans and my dresses not fitting.  Now my tops have turned on me too.  I checked the scale which hasn't seem to change or has it been slowly changing and I didn't notice.  When I had my physical this past December my doctor pointed out that I had gained weight.  According to her, 10lbs in one year.  When I told my friends that, they looked at me and asked "where".  As in, where have I gained weight. But I know. The proof is in the pants that I couldn't button the other day once I finally got them past my thighs.  TMI?  Just being real.

Well two weeks ago I made a decision to change my eating habits and start exercising.  My husband joined me in this and we agreed to kick start our changes by committing to be really focused for 21days and then take a week off before going back full swing.

Side note: before those of you who know me think I should relax, let me say I am working on prevention here.  I am genetically predisposed to weight can so my goal is to nip it in the bud here.  I can be lazy and if I wait it will only get harder as I get older.  Okay, now where was I?

So two weeks ago I agreed to turn over a new leaf and I decided to give up sugar for that time frame as well.  For a long time now I have had an affair with sugar that I knew needed to one day come to an end.  My doctor told me the same thing when she gave me my lab results also in December.  She said that I needed to cut back on sugar because it was affecting my cholesterol.  I thought she had to be joking.  I mean me and sugar go way back.  I remember as a kid having sugar sandwiches.  Ok, it sounds gross now I will admit, but it was a delight for me.

Anyway, I didn't listen to her initially. I figured I could get my act together before I had to repeat the bloodwork this past May, but I didn't.  As a matter of fact, I didn't make any changes until 2weeks ago. Although I want to be healthy and have energy, I must admit that my initial motivation was so that my clothes would fit.  I believe that God uses anything and anyone to get us to a place of surrender, even a pair of jeans.  Well, I surrendered.  As of today I feel much better and I have a lot more energy.  I also feel good about what I am putting into my body.  It hasn't been easy but it will be worth it.

The old me would have quit by now but I know that it is time I finally do the right thing.  I am taking it one day at a time and I am doing the bible study "Made to Crave" by Lysa TeKeurst for spiritual motivation.  I will be posting more about that later.

If you are putting off making changes in your eating habits there is no better time than today.  Trust me, no matter how hard you try, you can only hold it all in long enough to button your jeans and then you have to eat.

  1. Beautiful Sheryll! Amazing, your story sounds like mine. My doctor told me the exact same thing which is why I started this challenge for myself to not only loss weight but to keep it off so that I can live a healthier life. God is awesome, He brings people together for HIS devine purpose. Thanks for sharing your story.

  2. Love it! I am so proud of you for choosing to show God how much you love the body which you were blessed with, and it starts by us consciously deciding to love our 'temple' and staying committed to taking care of it from the inside out :-)

    1. Thanks cousin. Keep me in your prayers. The staying committed is gonna be the hard part.

  3. Great blog...and take it from someone a decade (or two!) older that you def want to start now rather than later. It is harder later. As someone who was blessed with the "skinny" gene, even that failed me after 50 and I too have had to make some changes in the name of health. God bless you on your journey to take care of the gift of life He has given us all.
    Blessings, Martha

    1. Thanks Martha. I was never blessed with that gene. I had baby fate before the baby. LOL

With the grace of God I will finish this and bring some people with me.

  4. That is great! I am glad you are experiencing success with your eating plan. I know it's hard, but it's so worth it when you have the energy and ability to run and keep up with the kids. I can totally relate to a long loving relationship with sugar. It takes a very strong and determined person to cut it off. I am not surprised you have done that. Keep it up!!
    Much love, Christina

    1. Thanks Chris. You are part of my inspiration. I continue to think about the birthday party for Jurrell Jr. where you denied pizza. I just didn't get it but now I do. Thanks for being my first vision of what a person committed to a healthy way of life looks like.
